How Packly Works
What is Packly?
Packly is a first-of-its-kind travel app that lets users check for weather forecast alerts at their destination, helping them decide what to bring on their travels.
The Packly app consists of four basic parts: A patent-pending chatbot that checks the fourteen-day weather forecast and alerts users if certain conditions are expected, a shop sharing Amazon® Prime products users may need or like to bring with them on their travels, a packing checklist, and an AI destination interest suggestion engine.
How the Chatbot Works
The Packly weather chatbot checks the following weather information:
- Temperature
- UV Index
- Dew Point
- Chance of Rain
- Chance of Snow
Users are asked to provide a destination city, arrival date, and departure date. The chatbot then checks the weather forecast for the dates the user will be at the destination and returns an alert if:
- Hot temperatures are expected
- Cool temperatures are expected
- Cold temperatures are expected
- Very cold temperatures are expected
- A high UV index is expected
- High humidity is expected
- Rain is expected
- Snow is expected
The chatbot returns temperature alerts based on a pre-selected Temperature Type™.
Determining Your Temperature Type
Because we all have different temperature tolerances, the chatbot asks unregistered users at the beginning of every session to choose a temperature type based on seasonal temperature sensitivity before returning weather alerts. Users who register will have their temperature type saved for future sessions, and they can change their type using the chatbot’s settings menu.
Cold Temperature Type
If in the summer, you find temperatures near 80°F/27°C hot, even with low humidity, but it doesn’t feel cool to you until the temperature drops to around 60°F/16°C, and in the winter, you typically wear a jacket around freezing (32°F/0°C), but you don’t need a heavy parka-type jacket unless it’s closer to 20°F/-7°C or you’re outside for extended periods, you are considered a cold temperature type.
Hot Temperature Type
If in the summer, you find temperatures near 80°F/27°C more warm than hot, even with some humidity, but it starts feeling cool to you when the temperature drops to around 70°F/21°C, and in the winter, you consider 32°F/0°C extremely cold and would want a heavy parka-type jacket for even short periods outside at that temperature, you are considered a hot temperature type
Hot Temperature Alerts
Hot temperature alerts are returned when the expected 4:00 PM feels-like temperature on a specified day exceeds approximately 75°F/23°C for cold temperature types and exceeds approximately 85°F/29°C for hot temperature types.
Cool Temperature Alerts
Cool temperature alerts are returned when the expected 4:00 PM feels-like temperature on a specified day drops below approximately 60°F/15°C but stays above approximately 45°F/7°C for cold temperature types and drops below approximately 70°F/21°C but stays above approximately 60°F/15°C for hot temperature types.
Cold Temperature Alerts
Cold temperature alerts are returned when the expected 4:00 PM feels-like temperature on a specified day drops below approximately 45°F/7°C but stays above approximately 20°F/-7°C for cold temperature types and drops below approximately 60°F/15°C but stays above approximately 45°F/7°C for hot temperature types.
Very Cold Temperature Alerts
Very cold temperature alerts are returned when the expected 4:00 PM feels-like temperature on a specified day drops below approximately 20°F/-7°C for cold temperature types and drops below approximately 45°F/7°C for hot temperature types.
High UV Alerts
High UV alerts are returned when the UV index is expected to be above 2 on a specified day.
Humidity Alerts
Humidity alerts are returned when the expected 4:00 PM feels-like temperature on a specified day exceeds approximately 70°F/21°C, and the 4:00 PM dew point is expected to be approximately 60°F/15°C or higher for cold temperature types and exceeds approximately 75°F/23°C, and the expected 4:00 PM dew point is expected to be approximately 65°F/18°C or higher for hot temperature types.
Rain Alerts
Rain alerts are returned when any amount of rain is expected on a specified day.
Snow Alerts
Snow alerts are returned when any amount of snow is expected on a specified day.
Note:
The chatbot can only return alerts for the date on which it is accessed and the thirteen days after. Users staying at their destination beyond this range are welcome to use the chatbot on a future date to check for new alerts.
About the Products
Currently, all products advertised on the Packly Travel app and by the Packly Travel chatbot are sold on Amazon® and are eligible for Amazon Prime® delivery at the time of posting. Occasionally, some products may no longer eligible for Prime delivery; if this is the case, the Prime badge will disappear from the listing. If there is no price listed, it means the product is most likely out of stock. Tapping the Buy Now button will bring you to the official seller’s page; there you can verify whether the product is in stock or not and find alternatives that meet your needs.
Although an Amazon Prime subscription is not required to use Packly, having a Prime subscription is highly recommended. Users should always verify all products meet their needs and can be delivered when needed by reviewing the full product description on Amazon before purchasing. Users traveling within the U.S. and certain other countries may also have items delivered to Amazon Parcel Lockers at or around their destination.
